Pune, 2nd December 2025: A 55-year-old scooter rider died on the spot after being hit and run over by a truck on the Katraj–Pisoli Road on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred near a marble showroom, drawing attention once again to the poor traffic management and unsafe road conditions in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Dattatray Murlidhar Bhapkar, a resident of Swayambhu Niwas, Lane No. 7, Bhekrai Nagar. He was travelling with his friend, Bharat Suresh Kondhare from Kondhwa, on a Honda Activa when the accident took place.

According to the police, the duo was heading towards Pisoli when a speeding truck rammed their scooter from behind. The collision caused Bhapkar to fall on the road, and the truck’s rear wheel allegedly crushed his upper body, leading to his death. Kondhare sustained injuries and was rushed for treatment.

Local residents tried to assist immediately, but Bhapkar could not be saved. An emergency ambulance (I-Van) later reached the spot for formalities.

The accident led to heavy traffic congestion on the busy stretch, forcing vehicles to crawl as commuters gathered around the scene.

Eyewitness Asif Bagwan, who was present at the spot, expressed concern about the growing number of mishaps on the road. He said such incidents have become frequent due to the deteriorating condition of the stretch and reckless driving by heavy vehicle drivers.

Residents claim that the Katraj–Pisoli route has become hazardous due to narrow lanes, damaged road surfaces and the unchecked movement of trucks.

Kondhwa Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage from the area will be examined to identify the truck involved and determine accountability in the incident.
