FDA Inspects 373 Establishments in Pune Division, Suspends Six Food Business Licences

Pune, 25th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on food adulteration and violations of food safety norms across the Pune division, inspecting 373 establishments over two days and suspending six food business licences for serious irregularities.

The inspections, carried out on July 21 and 22 as part of a statewide special enforcement drive, also included a focused inspection of hotels, restaurants and roadside eateries. During the drive, 36 such establishments were inspected, with six licences suspended and two establishments issued notices for failing to comply with food safety regulations.

The FDA said it has been closely monitoring establishments dealing in milk and dairy products, edible oils, bakery products and the sale of prohibited food items.

As part of the campaign against prohibited food products, the FDA inspected 373 establishments across the Pune division. During the operation, three FIRs were registered and 10 persons were arrested.

The department also took action against 11 vehicles allegedly transporting and selling banned products such as gutkha and pan masala. The vehicles, along with the prohibited goods, were seized.

Separately, the FDA carried out inspections of 10 establishments dealing in milk, dairy products, bakery items and edible oils to verify compliance with food safety standards. While no seizures were reported during these inspections, officials conducted detailed checks to ensure adherence to prescribed norms.

The FDA has appealed to citizens to report suspected cases of food adulteration or the sale of prohibited food products. Officials said enforcement drives against adulteration and violations of food safety regulations will be intensified further to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for consumers.
