Finally, Good News! Southwest Monsoon Revives Bringing Much Needed Relief

Pune, 8th July 2021: The wait is over! According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the revival of Southwest Monsoon has started which will bring rain along the Western coast of the country. This has given hope to the farmer community.

The moist easterly winds in the lower level from the Bay of Bengal have started to establish over eastern India which is likely to spread into northwest India covering Punjab and North Haryana by July 10. Similarly, IMD said that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance over the remaining parts of west Uttar Pradesh, some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi around the same time.

Prediction for Maharashtra

IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in all the four divisions of Maharashtra viz Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. It also has predicted scattered rainfall along with thundery activity and lightning in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra between July 8 to 12.

Similarly, the ghat sections too have been warned of heavy rainfall during this period. On Thursday, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Konkan and goa region received rainfall while there was isolated rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra.

IMD has predicted moderate rainfall in Pune city and surrounding areas till July 12. However, the ghat section will receive isolated heavy showers.

Monsoon prediction for India

Scattered to widespread rainfall very likely over Northwest India from July 9 onwards and isolated heavy rainfall likely over Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Punjab on July 11 and 12. Likewise, scattered to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Central India (Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha).

Strengthening of Southwest Monsoon over the Arabian Sea and likely formation of a Low-Pressure Area over WestCentral and adjoining areas will enhance the rainfall activity. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is very likely over Maharashtra and Goa and other parts between July 8 to 12, said IMD.
