Fire Breaks Out in Daund-Pune DEMU Near Yevat, Passenger Rescued from Toilet

Pune, 16th June 2025: A fire broke out in the toilet of a DEMU shuttle train travelling from Daund to Pune early Monday morning, causing panic among passengers. The incident occurred at around 7:05 a.m. when the train was near Yevat station.
According to officials, heavy smoke was observed emanating from the toilet of one of the coaches of Train No. 71404. A passenger was trapped inside the toilet at the time, as the door had reportedly become jammed due to the fire. Passengers onboard heard the individual’s screams and noticed smoke coming from the compartment.
Acting swiftly, a group of alert passengers broke the door and managed to rescue the trapped individual. The rescued passenger was immediately provided medical attention and admitted to the nearest hospital. Officials confirmed that he is currently responding to treatment.
Speaking to Punekar News, a railway official said, “The control room received a call at 7:05 a.m. reporting heavy smoke near Yevat station. Preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been caused by a passenger smoking inside the toilet. A detailed investigation is ongoing.”
The train resumed its journey and reached Pune station later in the morning.
One regular commuter, Omkar Shinde, who was on board, shared his experience: “It was terrifying. There was smoke and shouting. Thankfully, some passengers acted quickly. It could have been much worse.”
