Food Safety Concerns Escalate In Pune: FDA Suspends Licenses Of Two Popular Eateries Over Hygiene Violations
Pune, 16th July 2025: In back-to-back actions highlighting growing concerns over food safety in the city, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has temporarily suspended the licenses of two well-known eateries in Pune — Hotel Bhiwandi Darbar in Camp and the iconic Goodluck Café.
The suspension of Hotel Bhiwandi Darbar’s license came after a customer filed a complaint on 16th June, alleging that a cockroach was found in a bowl of soup served at the restaurant. Following the complaint, FDA officials carried out an inspection and uncovered several hygiene and food safety violations. In response, the establishment’s license was suspended until further notice.
Meanwhile, Goodluck Café, a longstanding favorite among Pune’s food lovers, also came under the FDA’s radar after a couple claimed to have discovered a glass shard in their bun maska — the cafe’s signature offering. The incident gained traction after the couple posted a video on social media, prompting the FDA to launch an immediate inspection. After confirming the lapse, the agency ordered a temporary suspension of the café’s license.
These consecutive incidents have sparked serious concerns about the hygiene standards maintained by restaurants across the city. Authorities have reiterated the need for strict compliance with food safety norms and assured that routine inspections will continue to ensure public health is not compromised.
