Football In Pune: Sangvi F.C ‘B’, Pune Warriors struggle; Ashoka XI, Durga SA cruise into last-8
Pune, 14th May 2023: Sangvi F.C ‘B,’ Pune Warriors struggled, while Ashoka XI and Durga S.A scored identical wins to complete the quarterfinals of the inaugural Aspire Cup 2023 (Second-Third Division) Football Tournament, at the Dr. Hedgewar ground, Pimpri here on Sunday
The tournament is being played under the aegis of the Poona District Football Association (PDFA) and organised by Aspire India.
In the opener, Sangvi F.C ‘B had Amit Rakshe (3rd) score early and help his team overcome Dynamites 1-0.
Later, Puneri Warriors and Infants Elite F.C played out a 0-0 draw, before the former forced a 5-4 verdict in the tie-breaker.
Puneri Warriors had Aniket Gupta, Prashant Kawade, Prasad Naik, Sandesh Sarawade and Vikas Gupta gain success from their spotkicks, while Infants Elite FC could only have Yash Lonare, Sanket Ghore, Syed Talha and Stephen Kate reduced the margin.
In another game, Ashoka XI put across a 3-0 verdict against Nav Maharashtra. Ravi Kiran (8th), Prasad Bhandari (20th) gave Ashoka XI a two goal cushion at half-time, before Sreerag VR (36th) completed the tally.
Durga S.A earned the final last-8 slot with an easy 3-0 win over Aryans S.C ‘B’. Karan Durga (14th) opened the scoring, before Neeraj Mane (36th) and Ronnie Rozario (46th) rounded off the tally.
