Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th January 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) is set for expansion, with a proposal to incorporate four major police stations from the Pune Rural Police Force submitted to the Maharashtra State Government’s Home Ministry. The stations in question are Lonavala City, Lonavala Rural, Kamshet, and Vadgaon Maval. If approved, this move is expected to strengthen law and order in Maval Taluka.

Established on 15th August 2018, the PCPC initially consisted of 15 police stations carved out from the Pune City Police Commissionerate and the Pune Rural Police Force. Over the past six years, the PCPC has expanded significantly and now includes 23 police stations, including a dedicated Cyber Police Station for addressing cyber crimes.

This is not the first instance of jurisdictional changes in the region. The current proposal has gained traction due to similar adjustments in 2020, when the Pune City Police Commissionerate incorporated areas under Loni Kalbhor and Lonikand Police Stations to better address the needs of urbanizing zones like Wagholi and Loni Kalbhor.

Maval Taluka, which encompasses the four police stations proposed for inclusion, is a prominent tourist destination in Maharashtra. The area is home to popular hill stations like Lonavala and Khandala, along with dams, caves, forts, and water bodies, making it a hotspot for tourism. With the tourism industry growing rapidly, the current rural police infrastructure is seen as insufficient to meet rising demands.

Aligning these stations with the PCPC is widely regarded as a positive step. The proposed inclusion is expected to bring increased manpower, enhanced supervision, and improved law enforcement. Locals anticipate that these changes will lead to reduced crime rates and further boost tourism in the area.
