Fourth Research Conference of “Little Scientists”

Venue: New Campus of IISER, Pashan Road, Pune

Preamble: Since independence Government of India has launched several schemes such as National Talent search, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) and Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) to nurture science talent. For the same purpose a number of Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) have been established in different parts of India. IISER Pune has a number of outreach programs for marginalized children.

With the objective to nurture science talent in the rural and tribal India, the Moving Academy of Medicine and Biomedicine, Pune has been conducting regularly for the last eight years a number of hands-on science programs in village and tribal schools. “Discovering Little Scientists” is one such two-month summer vacation research program for class X-XII students.  So far more than 226 students (21.7% Urban, 64.6% villages and 13.7% from Adivasi’s) have participated in the program.

To facilitate interaction between student groups who are interested in research, it is planned to host the Fourth Research Conference of “Little Scientists” in Pune on July 2016.

Program Highlights: The conference will have platform and poster presentations of the research done by “Little Scientists” and interactive sessions with top globally acclaimed scientists both in physical. A special feature of this year’s conference is a session on “Innovative ideas” developed by the participating students.

How to apply: The conference is open only to secondary school students of class IX-XII. Those who wish to present their innovative ideas should send to the organizers the title and short summary (about 150 words) of their ideas. An essay or short review of literature written by the student will not be accepted. A registration fee of Rs.500 will be charged to students selected for the conference. There are only 40 seats. Admission will be made by a committee consisting of scientists from the two organizations giving even distribution to various schools in Pune region.

Send application on a plain paper to Dr. M. G. Deo giving your name, age, sex, mobile number, email ID and marks obtained at standard IX/SSC/CBSE/ICSC Board or 11th standard school examination. Provide in about 100 words reasons for attending the conference. Applications can also be sent online on email given below. Interested candidates will have to send the scanned copy of DD. Last date for application is 11th July 2016. The selected candidates will be informed by 13th July.  Do not send original DD which should be submitted only after the candidate is informed of his/her selection.
