From Cadets to Lieutenants: AFMC Pune’s College of Nursing Celebrates 54th Batch Commissioning

Wanowrie, 22nd February 2024: The Commissioning Ceremony of 54th Batch of Nursing Graduates from College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College Pune took place today at Capt Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra Parade Ground, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Wanowrie, Pune.

This esteemed institution is a beacon of excellence in training and grooming Nursing Cadets to the highest standards of professionalism with military ethos. On completion of four years of rigorous training this culminating event is a significant milestone in the lives of these twenty seven Nursing Graduates, commissioned as Lieutenants in the Military Nursing Service.

The Reviewing Officer and Chief Guest for the event was Lt Gen Narendra Kotwal, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director and Commandant AFMC. The event commenced with reviewing of the parade by the General officer along with the parade commander followed by the commissioning of graduates by Lt Gen Kotwal, Maj Gen D Vivekanand, SM, Dean and Deputy Commandant of AFMC accompanied by Brig S Gita, the Principal College of Nursing. The oath of affirmation was administered by Principal, College of Nursing AFMC.

The alankrit parade marched past the dais with grace and poise, led by the parade commander. This momentous event was witnessed by esteemed guests, HsOD of AFMC, dignitaries from civil, parents, teachers, Officers and Nursing Officers of Pune Garrison.

During this magnificent ceremony the Chief Guest awarded prizes to the meritorious graduates for their outstanding achievements in academics and all round performance. The prestigious Lt Gen KS Master Memorial Silver Medal was awarded to Lt Ragnee Kumari for securing first position in final year Basic BSc Nursing University examination. The Gen Cariappa Rolling Trophy was awarded to Lt Karnabi Shankar for Best All Round Nursing Student and Lt Simranjeet Kaur received the Silver Jubilee Rolling Trophy for being adjudged as Best Bedside Nurse in the batch.

Addressing the newly commissioned Nursing Officers who were embarking on their professional journey, the chief guest emphasized that they have a vital role as a member of the health care teams and urged them to be always committed and render selfless service to their clientele in various AFMS hospitals. He congratulated and wished them all the very best in all their future endeavors.

Lt Gen Kotwal also complimented the faculty of the College of Nursing for their unwavering dedication and proficiency in mentoring the nursing trainees into skilled professionals, compassionate individuals, who are always ready to serve the nation with honor and distinction.
