Ganesh Festival in Pune from 27th August; Old Permits Valid, ‘Single-Window’ System for New Mandals
Pune, 4th August 2025: Ganeshotsav celebrations in Pune will be held from 27th August to 6th September this year, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced updated guidelines for Ganesh mandals and citizens. In a major relief, mandals with valid 2019 permissions can continue celebrations without reapplying, as those permits remain valid for five years. No additional fees will be charged for these renewals, PMC officials confirmed.
However, mandals from recently merged villages, newly formed mandals, or those that have changed their location must obtain fresh permissions as per the 2019 procedures. To streamline this, PMC along with the police department will implement a ‘single-window system’ to assist applicants.
Strict conditions have been set for erecting pandals. Mandaps cannot exceed 40 feet in height unless a certified stability report from a structural engineer is submitted. To ensure emergency access, arches and roads leading to mandaps must have a clearance of at least 18 feet. Mandals are also responsible for ensuring no obstruction is caused to residents, pedestrians, or vehicles.
In a push for sustainability, PMC has urged all mandals to use eco-friendly clay idols. Compliance with the Maharashtra government’s environmental norms is mandatory, including adherence to sound pollution guidelines.
After the festival, mandals must dismantle all pandals, arches, and decorations within three days. Any road damage or potholes caused during the festivities must be repaired by the respective mandals.
All mandals are also required to display a laminated copy of their permit prominently on the mandap. PMC reserves the right to cancel any permit if rules are violated.
