Ganesh Visarjan in Pune: Videos of Obscene Songs and Gestures Surface, Action Awaited
Pune, 28th September 2026: Alleged playing of obscene songs at high volume and objectionable gestures by some participants during the Ganesh immersion procession in the Alka Chowk area have raised questions over the enforcement of police guidelines during the event.
According to reports, some Ganesh mandals allegedly played songs containing objectionable or obscene content, while some young participants were seen making objectionable hand gestures and engaging in inappropriate actions during the procession.
The incidents occurred despite the presence of senior police officers and a large police deployment in the area as part of security arrangements for the immersion procession.
A large police force, including women police personnel, was deployed at various locations across Pune. The loud music and behaviour of some participants reportedly caused discomfort among personnel deployed for bandobast duty.
The Pune Police had issued guidelines for the immersion processions, including directions aimed at maintaining discipline and preventing violations related to noise levels and objectionable content in public spaces.
The reported incidents have raised questions about the enforcement of these guidelines during the procession. Citizens have sought action against mandals found violating the prescribed rules.
