Pune, 4th April 2024: Following its recent debut as an independent entity listed on the New York Stock Exchange, GE Aerospace unveils plans to invest over INR 240 crore (approximately USD 30 million) in the expansion and modernization of its manufacturing facility in Pune.

This substantial investment aims to facilitate the integration of new projects and manufacturing processes through the acquisition of cutting-edge machinery, equipment, and specialized tools, alongside augmenting the capacity of existing production lines.

Mike Kauffman, Vice President of Global Supply Chain at GE Aerospace, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting the facility’s steadfast commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. “Our team at the Multi-modal Manufacturing facility in Pune is dedicated to excellence. I am thrilled to witness the growth of this site, which plays a pivotal role in our global supply chain for aircraft engine components,” stated Kauffman.

Amol Nagar, Managing Director of GE Aerospace’s Pune facility, emphasized the investment’s significance in meeting the escalating demands of customers in the aerospace sector. “This investment reinforces our commitment to aerospace growth in India, equipping us with the necessary resources to cater to our expanding clientele,” Nagar remarked.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2015, the factory specializes in producing components for commercial jet engines. These components are subsequently supplied to GE’s global factories for the assembly of renowned engines such as G90, GEnx, GE 9X (the world’s most potent commercial jet engine), and the LEAP engines developed in collaboration with CFM, a joint venture between GE and Safran. Notably, the facility has played a pivotal role in nurturing local aerospace manufacturing talent, having trained over 5000 individuals in specialized aerospace precision manufacturing processes since its inception.

Certified under ISO14001 and ISO45001, the facility upholds stringent environmental standards and actively engages in community stewardship initiatives. Noteworthy achievements include sourcing 30% of its power consumption from renewable sources, implementing zero liquid discharge practices, recycling and reusing 1 crore liters (100 million liters) of water annually, and recycling 20 metric tons of plastic.

GE Aerospace has been a longstanding partner to India’s aviation industry for over four decades. Currently, 700 GE Aerospace and partner engines power major Indian airlines, while GE Aerospace’s defense engines and systems serve critical roles in the Indian Air Force and Navy. The Pune manufacturing facility, alongside 13 local partners in India, forms an integral part of the company’s global supply chain. Additionally, the company’s renowned John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru, established 24 years ago, remains at the forefront of aviation technology research and development.
