General Manager’s Safety Award for 10 Staff of Central Railway out of which 3 staff of Pune Division

Pune, 16th January 2024: Ram Karan Yadav, General Manager, Central Railway gave away “General Manager’s Safety Award” to 10 Central Railway staff i.e. 3 from Mumbai Division, 1 from Nagpur Division, 3 from Pune Division and 3 from Solapur Division in a function held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai on 16.1.2024.
The awards were given in appreciation of their alertness during duty, their contribution in averting untoward incidents and ensuring safety in train operations during the month November to December – 2023. The award consists of a Medal, commendation certificate, a citation of exemplary safety work and a cash award of Rs.2000/-.

Mumbai Division

Sanjeet Prasad Singh, Train Manager, Panvel, Mumbai division, while working on a Down goods train on 17.11.2023, noticed a rail fracture at kms 88/11-13 between Jasai Yard and Holding Yard on the Up Line. He informed all concerned, the fracture was put right and train operations resumed. Because of his alertness a potentially serious accident was averted.

Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Station Manager, Pen, Mumbai division, while on duty at Pen station on 07.12.2023, during exchange of signals with a passing goods train, observed spark coming out from the rear wheel of the engine. The train was stopped and on examination it was found that potholes had formed at 12 places in the track due to brake binding and flat tyre. The problem was put right and the goods train resumed with a speed restriction of 10 kmph. His alertness and presence of mind helped avert a serious mishap.

Rameshwar Meena, Technician LTT, Mumbai division, on 03.12.2023, during inspection of under gear of Udyog Nagari Express noticed a very thin crack in the third wheel tread of a 2AC coach which was normally difficult to see. It was confirmed through ‘Eddy Current Array Testing’. He immediately informed all concerned and a potentially serious mishap was averted due to his alertness.

Nagpur Division

Sudhir Bhaudas Chauhan, Technician, Nagpur division during ‘Rolling in Examination’ at Nagpur Yard on 18.12.2023, noticed that the trolley of the third coach from the loco in Shalimar-LTT Express was in broken condition. He immediately informed all concerned, the said coach was detached and a potentially serious accident was averted because of his alertness.

Pune Division

Chiranjilal Bairva, Track Maintainer, Koregaon, Pune division, during his duty as Keyman on 16.12.2023, saw the wheel of a wagon of Up goods train moving in derailed position between Koregaon

Satara section. He immediately showed a red signal, the train was stopped and all concerned were informed. His alertness, prevented a small technical glitch from turning into a more serious accident.

Rajeev Kumar Technician Pune division during inspection of train 12150 on 21.08.2023, noticed that the primary outer spring on the right side of the leading trolley of a coach was broken. He immediately informed all concerned and the said coach was detached. Due to his alertness an accident was averted.

Nikhil Kamble Technician Pune division, during inspection of train 02142 on 09.11.2023, noticed that the primary outer spring on the left side of the rear trolley of a coach was broken. He immediately informed all concerned and the said coach was detached. Due to his alertness an accident was averted.
Solapur Division

P.J. Jijimon, Deputy Station Manager, Kalaburagi, Solapur division, during shunting work at Kalaburagi station on 01.12.2023, saw empty rake 07748 crossing the shunt signal in ON position. He shouted loudly and informed the loco pilot about the situation and stopped the train, due to which the rake was saved from derailing at the derail switch. Due to his alertness an impending accident was averted.

Sunil Kumar, Pointsman, Sawalgi, Solapur division on 09.12.2023 during exchange of signals, noticed hot axle in the eighth coach of UP train 60302. He immediately showed danger signal, the train was stopped and the fire was put out with a fire extinguisher. The train was pushed back to the station and the said coach was detached. Due to his alertness a serious accident was averted.

Vinod Kumar Gateman Kalaburagi, Solapur division, on 20.12.2023 noticed hot axle in the twentieth wagon from the brake van side of a passing goods train. He immediately informed the Station Manager/Kalaburgi. The said wagon was detached from the train in Kalaburagi. Due to his alertness a serious accident was averted.
The General Manager in his address congratulated the awardees and complimented them for their alertness and dedication towards their duties. He said that such acts of alertness and bravery will motivate others to sincerely work towards the safety of passengers.

Chittaranjan Swain, Additional General Manager, S S Gupta, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Sunil Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, M S Uppal, Principal Chief Safety Officer and S S Kedia, Chief Track Engineer, Central Railway were present on the occasion.
