Giant Starkenn and Pune Pedal Power to organize‘India Remembers’ Cycle Rally from Pune to Apsinge Village

·         130 Km cycle rally from Pune to Apsinge Village is being conducted to commemorate and remember fallen soldiers of Indian Army

Pune, 8th December, 2016: Starkenn Sports Pvt. Ltd. in association with Pune Pedal Power is organizing ‘India Remembers’ bicycle ride from Pune to Apsinge village in the Satara district. ‘India Remembers’ ride is organized to commemorate and remember fallen soldiers of Indian Army.This 130 KM bicycle ride will commence on 11th December, 2016 at 6.30 am from Khadki War Cemetery and will reach village Apsinge by 2.30 pm. This is first of its kind bicycle rally will see participation of people from different walks of life. Elite riders, Soldiers from Indian army, Common citizens and cycle enthusiasts from the city are participating in this ride.

Mr. Pravin Patil, MD & CEO, Starkenn Sports. Pvt. Ltd, Lt. Kuljeet Singh- President- Pune Pedal Power and Brig. Mohan Nikam (Retd.)- Head of Village Welcome Committee addressed a press conference today to announce this initiative. 

Ultimate aim of ‘India Remembers’ bicycle rally is to encourage communities across India to remember and honour Indian servicemen and women who served and died in various pre and post-independence military operations. This bicycle rally is the part of India Remembers Project which is working towards a transformation in the society by highlighting the national duty of remembrance of those who died in the service of our country.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pravin V Patil, Managing Director and CEO, Starkenn Sports Pvt Ltd said, “Many countries have designated special days and symbols to remember the sacrifice of their fallen soldiers but in India we lack such tradition of remembrance. With this initiative we are trying to create an awareness amongst communities across India to remember & honour our fallen soldiers. With this activity we aim to continue our association with Pedal Power to extend our support in all their endeavors to promote the remembrance culture across the country.”

Speaking on the occasion Lt. Kuljeet Singh, President, Pune Pedal Power said, “This perhaps is the first time that citizen-cyclists will be riding a distance of 130 kms to village Apsinge from Pune to pay their respect to this historic village situated near Satara. This cycle ride is being conducted under the supervision and guidance of Giant Starkenn. Giant Starkenn is a well-known company which promotes endurance cycling and cycle sports.

The concept of remembering the soldiers is a joint initiative of The United Service Institution of India (USI) and The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). I am confident that cycle can become a vehicle to generate remembrance culture in our country. Schools and colleges in cities and towns can visit War Memorials riding on bicycles. Such activities conducted in Pune have been well received by the educational communities”

Speaking on the occasion Brig. Mohan Nikam (Retd.)- Head of Village Welcome Committee said, “We are delighted and honored to know that the cyclists from Pune are visiting our village to commemorate and remember the fallen soldiers. Many people may be knowing that Apshinge Military village has a unique tradition of military history and ethos. Every household in the village has a member who has served in the armed forces. Soldiers of our village have sacrificed their lives in all the wars since 1914.”
