New Delhi, 21st October 2026: Gold prices have risen by more than 25% since last Dussehra, increasing the value of gold purchased a year ago as the precious metal continues to trade at elevated levels in the domestic market. Silver has recorded an even sharper rise of around 45% over the same period, according to market data reported by IANS.

Gold prices in the domestic market were above ₹1.47 lakh per 10 grams on the occasion of Dussehra this year, while silver was trading close to ₹2.10 lakh per kilogram.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures closed at ₹1,47,300 per 10 grams on Monday, October 19, down ₹618, or 0.42%, from the previous close. December silver futures settled at ₹2,09,825 per kilogram. In Mumbai, the reported price of 24-carat gold stood at ₹1,47,340 per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold was priced at ₹1,35,062 per 10 grams.

The rise in prices has increased the notional value of gold holdings purchased during the previous festive season. Gold worth ₹1 lakh last Dussehra would be worth approximately ₹1.25 lakh now, based on the reported 25% increase in gold prices. Similarly, silver purchased for ₹1 lakh a year ago would be worth around ₹1.45 lakh following its reported 45% rise.

However, these figures reflect changes in the underlying metal prices and should not be treated as the guaranteed resale value of jewellery. Making charges, taxes, purity, wastage deductions and jeweller-specific buyback policies can affect the amount a customer receives when selling gold ornaments.

The price movement comes amid continued global economic uncertainty, inflation concerns and changing expectations around interest rates. Gold is traditionally considered a safe-haven asset, attracting investor interest during periods of economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

Internationally, spot gold was reported at around $4,144 per ounce, while spot silver traded near $57.44 per ounce. Higher crude oil prices and concerns that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates have weighed on gold, as higher interest rates generally reduce the relative attractiveness of assets that do not generate interest.

Despite these pressures, gold and silver prices remain significantly higher than they were during last year’s Dussehra, highlighting the increase in the value of precious metals over the past year.
