Gold’s gym owner escapes in firing

Pune, January 19, 2016: Shakeel Bijapure (42), the Gold’s Gym franchise owner, had a close shave when a man fired thrice at him in Kothrud on Monday night. Police suspect it could be fall out of past enmity.

As per Bijapure’s complaint, Alankar police station has registered an attempt to murder case against Ali Shaikh of Mangalwa Peth and another unidentified person.

The incident took place around 8.15 pm in the basement of Revolution Mall near City Pride. Bijapure, a resident of Viman Nagar, was going home in his SUV when a man wearing hood approached and began firing without saying anything. His driver Sudhakar Londhe, who sustained minor injuries from broken glass, came out from the other door and raised an alarm. However by then the attacker fled. After getting information zonal deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Tushar Doshi, ACP (crime branch) Rajendra Joshi and police inspector Vijaysinh Gaikwad from the anti-organised crime cell (south region) visited the spot.

Bijapure told police that few days back he had received a phone call saying that he will be shot dead for cheating Ali Bhai.

DCP Doshi said, “We have got some clues based on statement of Bijapure. The hunt is on for the accused person.”
