Pune, 8th June 2025: Customers across the country faced inconvenience on Saturday morning as HDFC Bank’s servers remained down beyond the scheduled maintenance period, leaving digital transactions non-functional well into the morning.

Though the bank had issued an advance notice stating that NetBanking and mobile app services would be unavailable till 6:30 AM, users reported that services were still unresponsive till around 9:00 AM. This unexpected delay left many customers unable to make payments, especially those relying solely on digital modes.

Several frustrated users took to social media to complain, highlighting how the outage affected their morning purchases and payments. “I had no cash on me and was stuck at a grocery store counter,” said Nikhil Sharma, a tech professional from Baner, Pune. “Even UPI didn’t work. It’s surprising that such a big bank can’t stick to their own maintenance timeline.”

Scheduled Downtime

HDFC Bank had previously announced a series of scheduled maintenance windows between 6th and 8th June, affecting various banking services. The most critical among them was the NetBanking and MobileBanking App downtime from 2:30 AM to 6:30 AM on 8th June, which was supposed to be restored by early morning.

Affected Services Included:

  • Account details access
  • Deposits
  • Fund transfers via UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS
  • Merchant payments
  • Instant account opening
  • Credit card transactions and rewards redemption

Despite these announcements, the extended outage drew flak from users who expected normal functioning by the start of business hours. While the HDFC website had posted a note thanking users for their “understanding and cooperation”, many customers felt the bank should have communicated the delay more transparently.

No Immediate Clarification

As of filing this report, HDFC Bank has not issued a fresh statement explaining the extended downtime. Meanwhile, users continue to face intermittent issues with transactions, especially through the bank’s UPI and netbanking portals.
