Heavy Weekend Rush and Fog Cause Severe Traffic Jams on Mumbai Pune Expressway
Mumbai/Pune, 21st December 2024: The Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway (Mumbai Pune Expressway), which connects the major cities of Mumbai and Pune, is currently experiencing slow-moving traffic, especially near Khandala Ghat. This major highway, known for its crucial role in connecting the two cities, is running at a slower pace due to a combination of factors.
With the weekend approaching, the usual rush of citizens travelling between Mumbai and Pune has led to significant congestion on the expressway. The heavy flow of vehicles, particularly on Saturdays and Sundays, causes long traffic jams, which often stretch for miles. Today, however, the situation seems to be more severe, with a particularly large traffic jam observed near Khandala Ghat.
In addition to the weekend rush, the cold snap affecting Maharashtra is adding to the traffic woes. Pune, like many other areas in the state, has been experiencing a significant drop in temperatures in recent days, which has contributed to the spread of dense fog in certain regions. Khandala Ghat, being one of the more vulnerable areas to such weather conditions, has seen reduced visibility due to the fog, making it difficult for vehicles to move at normal speeds.
With an increasing number of vehicles and poor visibility, the traffic on the expressway is moving slowly. If you’re travelling on the expressway today, there is a high possibility of being stuck in a traffic jam for extended periods. Drivers are advised to take necessary precautions, stay updated on traffic conditions, and plan for delays if they are heading toward or coming from Pune or Mumbai.
