High-Voltage Line Tripped: Pune’s Hinjawadi, Wakad Face Power Outage

Hinjawadi, 24th March 2025: A fire broke out on Saturday (22 March) causing a trip in the Pirangut Kandalgav 220 KV high-voltage transmission line at 12:44 PM. This led to a power outage affecting approximately 10,200 customers across multiple areas, including Hinjawadi (home to 200 IT companies), Wakad, Pirangut, Bhukum, Bhugav, Paud, Mutha Khore, Kolvan Khore, and several others, lasting for 43 minutes.
The fire, which spread through shrubs and trees in the hilly region of Ambegaon, reached the 220 KV high-voltage line of MSEDCL, triggering a trip in the system. Consequently, 31 substations across the Pimpri and Mulshi divisions of MSEDCL shut down, resulting in an 182 MW power deficit.
As a result, power was disrupted for approximately 90,000 customers, including households, businesses, and IT industries in the affected areas. However, MSEDCL’s senior engineers promptly arrived at the site and carried out necessary repairs, successfully restoring power to the entire region within 43 minutes.
