Hinjawadi PCMC Merger: Rahul Kalate Seeks 1, 3, 5-Year Roadmap From CM Fadnavis
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 4th September 2026: Pimpri-Chinchwad corporator Rahul Kalate met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday and submitted a letter seeking clarity and a phased development roadmap for the proposed inclusion of Hinjawadi into the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The meeting came days after Fadnavis indicated a positive stance on the proposed merger during a media interaction. Kalate sought clarity on the timeline and mechanism of the process, while stressing that any decision on Hinjawadi should take into account its close links with neighbouring areas.
Infrastructure strain in IT hub
Hinjawadi, one of Maharashtra’s major IT and employment hubs, has witnessed rapid urbanisation that has placed pressure on civic infrastructure. Residents and commuters have repeatedly raised concerns over water supply, traffic congestion, public transport, waste management and sewage systems.
Kalate said Hinjawadi’s development was closely linked to Wakad, Tathawade and Punawale, where a large number of employees working in the IT hub reside.
He has sought a one-year, three-year and five-year development roadmap covering water supply augmentation, sewage management, solid waste management, road capacity, public transport and bus connectivity, parking and traffic decongestion.
Kalate also sought clarity on whether the proposed merger would cover Hinjawadi alone or extend to the wider cluster of Maan, Marunji, Jambhe, Gahunje, Nere and Sangawade. He called for the scope of the merger to be formally communicated through a government resolution or official notification.
Coordination panel proposed
Kalate has proposed a coordination meeting involving the PCMC, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and representatives of the affected villages to finalise the development plan.
“This should not remain merely an administrative boundary exercise. The objective must be to create a well-planned, sustainable and future-ready urban region,” Kalate said.
Describing the Chief Minister’s stance as “a welcome and positive step”, Kalate said Hinjewadi’s future was not limited to the growth of the IT industry but also concerned “the everyday lives of lakhs of citizens who live, work and travel across this region.”
He called for the proposed transition to be supported by clear timelines, defined responsibilities and financial planning.
