Hinjewadi Villagers Worried Over Contaminated Water In Wells And Borewells

Pune: July 25, 2021: Hinjewadi farmers are worried over loss to health and farming due to chemically contaminated water being released by few of the IT companies in the area. This contaminated water has affected the borewells and wells which are used by the villagers for drinking water and farming purpose.

Despite complaints made to the company management, there has been still no action from them”, said the local residents adding that this water is severely affecting the health as well as they are incurring the losses in farming.

The Grampanchyat also has given written notice to the companies but there has been no response from them. There are a few companies in phase II where the water is released without any treatment at a nullah in Bodkewadi. This water then percolates into the wells and borewells which are connected with the canal which passes from Pardeshi, Mulani, Rakshe areas.

Further this water gets mixed into the river. “The water which is mixed with chemicals is dangerous for health. Similarly, due to this untreated water the wells and other water sources from this area is getting contaminated. We have registered a complaint with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB)”, said Mulshi panchayat samiti group development officer Sandeep Jathar.

Farmer and resident of the area Ganesh Patil said, “We have been suffering from this chemically mixed water for years now. Due to this water we are suffering with ailments like rashes on the skin, nausea among others”.
