Pune, 10th June 2026: A bomb threat email sent to the Mayor’s Office at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) triggered a major security operation on Wednesday, prompting authorities to evacuate and thoroughly search the civic body’s headquarters.

After an extensive inspection by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), police confirmed that the threat was a hoax and no suspicious object was found.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) P.R. Patil, the threatening email was received at 8:21 am on the official email account of the Mayor’s Office. The email claimed that bombs had been planted at the Mayor’s Office, the Vidhan Bhavan, and an RSS office.

“The email was noticed by office staff at around 10:15 am, following which Shivajinagar Police Station was informed at 10:35 am. A security response was immediately initiated and the BDDS team was deployed for a detailed search,” Patil said.

Police alerted the Pune City BDDS at 10:40 am and deployed security personnel at the PMC’s new administrative building. The BDDS team arrived at 10:54 am and conducted a comprehensive search of the Mayor’s Office and the entire PMC building until 1:15 pm.

“No bomb-like object or suspicious material was found during the inspection,” Patil said.

A substantial security deployment was maintained during the operation, including two Police Inspectors, two Assistant/Sub-Inspectors, 28 police personnel, and an RCP-I team from Shivajinagar Police Station. PMC security officers, civic staff, and personnel from the Fire Brigade were also present.

Patil further said that police teams also carried out searches at the RSS office in Moti Bagh in Shaniwar Peth and at Council Hall, both of which were mentioned in the threat communication.

“Nothing suspicious was found at either location,” he added.

The Cyber Police Station has launched a technical investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify the IP address used to send the threat. Legal action is being initiated against those responsible for creating the false alarm.

“The investigation indicates that the bomb threat was a hoax. Efforts are underway to identify the sender and take appropriate legal action,” Patil said.

Normal operations resumed at all inspected locations after the searches were completed.
