Hockey: Loyola boys enter U-17 finals; Lokmanya Tilak, Khadki Education Society girls advance into U-19 summit clash

Pimpri, 1^st December 2024:  Loyola HS boys and Lokmanya Tilak H.S, Khadki Education Society rolled into the finals of the Boys Under-17 and Girls Under-19 sections respectively in the Fr. Schoch Memorial Inter School Hockey 2024 at the Maj Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri on Sunday.

The tournament is being organised by Loyola High School along with ELAN (Ex-Loyola Alumni Network) and under the aegis of Hockey Maharashtra for school children for the fifth year in succession.

Loyola H.S await the winner of the second semifinal between Col.Bhagat H.S and Modern H.S to be played on Monday.

In the day’s action, the semifinal of the Boys Under-17section had Loyola H.S ‘A’ knockout New Millenium School 5-1. The hosts proved dominant, scoring four goals at the half-way stage.

A brace by Aayosh Nalawade (17^th, 32^nd) and a goal each by Vedant Pashankar (21^st) and Anshul Nair (38^th) took the tally to 4-0 at half time. New Millenium reduced the margin through Rakesh Mahajan (41^st), while Anshul Nair (47^th) completed the tally for Loyola ‘A’.

In the Girls Under-19  girl’s semi-finals, Khadki Education Society thumped Col. Bhagat H.S 6-0 and made the final. A four-goal effort by Sneha Bendre (9^th, 17^th – p.c, 23^rd, 32^nd) and a two-goal effort by Sakshi Gupta (18^th, 25^th) was the main feature of the match. Shubhangi Jagdhane (21st) added to complete the tally.

Later, Lokmanya Tilak H.S rolled past New Millennium School 3-0 to make the final. A goal each by Sanika Nunse (5^th), Pushpalata Akhade (39^th) and Mrunali Bagade (58th) was enough for Lokmanya Tilak to book a spot in the final.

In the first match of the day, Modern H.S qualified from Group-C after playing out a goalless (0-0) draw with Muktai H.S in the Boy’s Under-14 section.
