Hockey: Loyola H.S bag a grand double; St Joseph’s, SAKEM, Khadki Education Society top sections
Pimpri, 10th December 2024: Loyola H.S signed off their campaign bagging a grand double by winning the Under-12 and Under-17 boy’s titles in the r. Schoch Memorial Inter School Hockey 2024 at the Maj Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri.
The tournament is being organised by Loyola High School along with ELAN (Ex-Loyola Alumni Network) and under the aegis of Hockey Maharashtra for school children for the fifth year in succession.
On a day set aside for the finals in five age-group categories, Loyola H.S began the day winning the Under-12 Boys title at the expence of arch rivals St. Vincent’s H.S 3-0. The highlight of the win was a brace by Ishan Shelar (5th, 42nd) and a penalty stroke conversion by Ranveer Shinde (40th).
Loyola H.S’s delight was carried forward into the Under-17 Boys category when they downed Col Bhagat H.S 5-4 aftersharing full time honours 1-1 and later extending to the fullest.
Loyola opened the scoring through Vedanshu Desale (29th). Col Bhagat levelled the scores when Arsh Shah (55th) scored late (1-1). In the tie-breaker, Loyola H.S had Shreyash Rajmane, Bhavik Salunke, Om Dangat score, while Numair Shaikh, Abhishek Verma, Maruf Khan replied for Col Bhagat H.S to make it 3-3. In the final shoot-out, Shreyash Rajmane netted the match-winner for Loyola H.S.
The girls, Under-14 title was claimed by St. Joseph’s, Pashan who hammered St. Annes 7-0 in a one sided final. A four-goal effort by Anvi Rawat (2nd, 32nd, 35th, 44th) was the mainstay of the win, while Caelyn Nesamani (5th), Savani Gaikwad (20th) and Rhythm Kurkure (23rd) added a goal each.
Later, the boys, under-14s title face off was a hard fought issue and decided in the sudden death 3-2 after both failed to score (0-0) a goal each at the end of regular time and the tie-breaker remained 1-1. Shree Anantrao Kulkarni English Medium School (SAKEM), Narayangaon had Sholk Sahane score, while Shreyas Shinde equalised for Sant Tukaram H.S.
In the ensuing sudden-death shootout, Sholk Sahane, Sairaj Bankar netted twice for SAKEM, while St Tukaram H.S had just Prabhudeva Pushpakhore reduce the margin after Shreyas Shinde missed his attempt.
The girls, under-19 final was a hard-fought final. Khadki Education Society downed Lokmanya Tilak 2-1 with a brace scored by Sidhi Gawali (40th, 55th) and Pushpalata Akhade (59th) minute for Lokmanya Tilak H.S.
