Pune, 24th February 2024: Pune City Police have successfully dismantled a major drug smuggling operation, exposing an international mephedrone (MD) racket. Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis commended the diligent efforts of the police force and announced a special reward of 25 lakhs for their outstanding performance.

The commendation was extended during the Home Minister’s visit to the Pune Police Commissionerate, where he expressed his gratitude to the Crime Branch, local police, and other contributing units.

The operation resulted in the seizure of a staggering 1800 kg of MD drugs, commonly known as Meow Meow, with an estimated value of Rs 3700 Crores in the international market. Earthchem Laboratories, located in Kurkumbh MIDC, has been identified as the manufacturing hub for these banned substances, leading to the immediate sealing of the facility. Notably, the factory owner is among the nine individuals who have been arrested thus far.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar provided insights into the modus operandi of the accused, revealing that the illegal drugs were not only distributed within various cities in India, including Pune, Sangli, and Delhi but were also shipped internationally, with parcels traced to London.

Addressing the pressing issue of drug trafficking, Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the need for stringent action against peddlers and stockists.
