Pune, 6th June 2023: A shocking incident unfolded near Mutheshwar Temple in Shaniwar Peth, where a heated dispute over sleeping on the footpath took a horrifying turn as a young man was set on fire by an assailant who poured an inflammable substance on his body.

The victim, identified as Milind Siddhapa Hoskutty (38), a resident of Indiranagar Colony, Khadki, suffered severe burns and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The police have taken swift action in the case, apprehending Balamukund Pandit (59), a resident of Bibvewadi, as the primary suspect. Pandit and Hoskutty had engaged in an argument on Monday night when Hoskutty decided to sleep in an open area near Mutheshwar Temple due to being late to return home. During the altercation, Pandit verbally abused Hoskutty and even threatened to kill him. Despite the exchange, Hoskutty proceeded to rest in the library area near the temple.

In the midst of the night, Pandit allegedly poured an inflammable substance on Hoskutty, who was fast asleep, and proceeded to set him on fire. As a result, Hoskutty suffered burns to his hands and chest. The Vishram Bagh police promptly registered a case of attempted murder against Pandit, who has since been arrested. Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Nikumbh has been assigned to investigate the matter.
