How Pune Police Used 150 CCTV Feeds to Nab a Chain Snatcher

Pune, 19th May 2025: Sahakarnagar Police arrested a 27-year-old man within 12 hours of a gold mangalsutra snatching incident reported in Dhankawadi. The accused, who works as a delivery boy, had fled on a motorcycle after targeting an elderly woman during her morning walk.
The arrested individual has been identified as Amol Kisan Nakte (27), a resident of Samta Colony, Ambegaon Pathar, Dhankawadi. He originally hails from Pimpri Gunjavne, Taluka Velhe.
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of May 16 when Nakte snatched a two-tola gold mangalsutra from the victim and sped away on a two-wheeler. The woman promptly lodged a complaint at the Sahakarnagar Police Station.
Acting swiftly, the police team reached the crime scene and launched an investigation. Officers reviewed footage from 150 CCTV cameras across the Dhankawadi area. Based on technical analysis and inputs, the accused was traced to Ambegaon Pathar, where a police team laid a trap and arrested him. Both the mangalsutra and the motorcycle used in the crime have been recovered.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smarta Patil and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rahul Aware.
The investigation team included Senior Police Inspector Rahul Gaud, Crime Branch Inspector Surekha Chavan, Assistant Inspector Sagar Patil, and personnel Bapu Khutwad, Sagar Sutkar, Yogesh Dhole, Pradeep Renuse, Mahesh Bhagat, Bajrang Pawar, Akash Kirtikar, Khandu Shinde, and Amit Padmale.
