Pune, 24th March 2025: The state government has made it mandatory for vehicles registered before 2019 to install high-security number plates (HSRP), with the registration process currently underway. Following the government’s directive, the deadline for HSRP installation has been extended. However, despite this extension, only 45,500 vehicle owners in Pune have installed the plates so far, according to data provided by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). This indicates a lukewarm response from Pune residents toward the initiative.

As per RTO data, Pune City has over 2.5 million vehicles registered before April 2019. As of Friday (March 22), approximately 240,000 vehicle owners have completed the registration process for HSRP installation. However, only 45,500 vehicles have had the plates installed, leaving 195,500 vehicle owners still waiting.

Rosmerta Technologies has been appointed to oversee the installation process, and vehicle owners have been urged to complete their online registration promptly to facilitate quicker installation.

Initially, only 59 installation centers were set up, but due to manpower shortages, delays occurred, leading to disputes between vehicle owners and center operators. To address this issue, the number of centers has now been increased to 125.
