Pune, 14th October 2026: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) inaugurated its manufacturing plant in Talegaon, Pune, on Wednesday, announcing an investment of ₹11,000 crore in phases to increase its annual production capacity from 1.7 lakh units to 3.2 lakh units by 2030.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, Industries, Investment and Services Department Minister Dr Uday Samant, South Korean Ambassador to India Lee Seong-ho and senior Hyundai Motor Group officials attended the inauguration.

Addressing the event, Fadnavis highlighted the planned plant expansion and the state’s role in facilitating industrial investment.

“We hope that the 1,70,000-unit production capacity will only progress in the coming years. This goes to show Hyundai’s innovative capacity and Maharashtra’s ability to provide a sustainable ecosystem for the investment,” Fadnavis said.

Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg announced the ₹11,000 crore investment in phases and highlighted the supplier network’s contribution to employment in Maharashtra.

“The inauguration of our Pune plant marks the beginning of HMIL’s next chapter of growth in India. We will invest INR 11,000 crore in phases at this facility. Beyond expanding manufacturing capacity, the facility will drive industrial development, innovation and employment generation in the region,” Garg said.

He also highlighted the investments made by Hyundai’s supplier partners in Maharashtra.

“Supporting this vision is a strong regional supplier ecosystem, with 55 supplier partners having already invested nearly INR 4,600 crore in the state. Together with tier-II vendors, the ecosystem has created more than 18,000 employment opportunities in Maharashtra,” Garg said.

Nearly half of Hyundai’s supplier sourcing network is located within a 50-kilometre radius of the plant, according to the company.

The Talegaon facility currently has an installed annual production capacity of 1.7 lakh units and houses an engine shop capable of producing 1.5 lakh engines annually. The plant’s production lines can accommodate internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid models.

The all-new Hyundai Venue will be manufactured exclusively at the Pune plant, with the company planning to expand exports to more than 35 countries. Hyundai’s combined annual manufacturing capacity across its Pune and Chennai operations is expected to reach nearly 11.4 lakh units by 2030.

The inauguration also coincided with Hyundai Motor India’s milestone of four million cumulative passenger vehicle exports from India since 1999. The company has also recorded domestic sales of nearly 10 million passenger vehicles during its 30 years of operations in the country.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung highlighted India’s role in the company’s global operations.

“India remains one of Hyundai’s most important and strategic markets globally. The inauguration of the Pune plant reflects our long-term commitment to India’s growth and our confidence in its bright future,” Chung said.

He added that the company’s four-million export milestone demonstrated the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and its role in Hyundai Motor Group’s global operations.
