IIID ‘Design Yatra’ kick-starts at Pune
Pune, December 31: India’s first of its kind, ‘Design Yatra’, a national level initiative by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) to promote Creativity and Design amongst people, kick started its journey in Pune from today. This Yatra, in a fleet of five Nano cars was welcomed by the chief guest, Mayor Prashant Jagtap at Sarasbaug Temple today. Pratap Jadhav, National President of IIID, Vishnu Bheda, Chairperson and Ar Hemant Mahajan Hon. Secretary IIID Pune Chapter were present on this occasion along with other IIID members. Corporator Ujjawal Keskar also graced the occasion.
On this occasion an exhibit of documentation made by IIID Pune for Paravi temples was also inaugurated. With the theme of ‘Taking Design to Masses’, the Design Yatra was flagged off in February 2016 from Indore and has already covered over 24000 kms through 26 Cities in India, taking Design to the masses in every city.
The Yatra which began from Sarasbaug Temple today went to the inauguration function of the exhibition titled as, ‘Well designed Public Spaces’ to showcase good examples public spaces from India and in the city. Being held at Pune Art Plaza, Bund Garden Bridge the exhibition will be open to public till 14th January, 2017.
Under this initiative, the Design Yatra will visit many events like film festivals, awareness rallies, seminars, social interventions, design competitions, exhibitions and workshops which are planned at various venues in Pune till January 14, 2017. Beginning with the activities of the first week, on Monday, January 1, at 4.00 pm, a ‘Dialogue with Design Community’ is organised at Suhas Ekbote Furniture Store near Birla Hospital at Chinchwad. On January 2, at 10 am, the Yatra will participate in an Awareness rally at Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha’s Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture’s CAID and Manilal Nanavati Vocational Training Institute at the institution’s campus in Karve Nagar.
On Tuesday, January 3 another awareness rally is planned by Vitra at Sathe & Co., Near Lal Deval, Camp, at 6.00pm. The 5th Day of Design Yatra (on January 4) will mark the inauguration ceremony of Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud, at 6.00 pm. The Design Yatra will be at Balgandharva Rangamandir, J M Road for the inauguration of Pune Biennale 2017 on Thursday, January 5, at 5.00 pm.
On Friday, January 6, multiple events are organised such as awareness rally & visit to MIT at Loni at 10am, inauguration of 2nd Exhibition of ‘Well Designed Public Spaces’ at Kirloskar campus, Karve Road, Kothrud at 3:30pm and a Film Festival at the Cummins Engineering College Auditorium at 1.00pm.
During the 2nd week activities, on January 12, IIID and Association of Designers of India (ADI) will launch a Social initiative with a Public debate on ‘My City- My Promise’ at Ishanya at 5:00pm.
The Yatra, so far, has travelled through 24 cities, hosted by IIID Chapters in Indore, Mumbai, Nashik, Vadodara, Jaipur, Goa, Delhi, Nagpur, Bangalore, Chennai and Satara and many more. The Design Yatra will conclude in February 2017 at Indore, after covering Ahmednagar and Bhopal on the way.
