Yesterday, Former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry (54) died in a road accident as his car collided with a divider on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

Regarding road safety and the importance of seatbelts, Sudhir Mehta, the President of Maratha Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA), tweeted, “We were once again morbidly reminded how #seatbelts save lives. Front or rear seat, it is paramount for all passengers to wear them.”

Mehta, who is also CMD of Pinnacle Industries, added, “As a seat manufacturer we know the ramifications. It’s been proved multiple times that #SeatBelts are the principal difference between life & death.”

He added further, “This #Ganpati let us all take a pledge to ensure the safety of our loved ones. From all passengers wearing seat belts to securing kids in a car seat, to both rider & pillion wearing helmets. Let us protect ourselves and our future.”

He tagged @Uber_India @Olacabs @makemytrip in his tweet and stated that they should make cab drivers mandatory to leave back seat belt buckles to be left open. Most drivers hide the buckles when they change the seat covers

Many people on Twitter came forward and shared their thoughts regarding the same.

One user wrote, “The people sitting in the front row have most probably been injured due to the rear passengers hitting them like a missile. Had the rear passengers been belted, none would have died or suffered major injuries. #seatbelt_saves_lives”

Another user wrote, “Very right. Even Gopinath Munde died similarly. Wearing a seat belt would have easily saved then Munde and Cyrus.”
