India Showcases Resilient Economy and Innovation at WEF Davos 2025: Ashwini Vaishnav

Davos, 24th January 2025: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, leading the central delegation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025, highlighted India’s extraordinary growth story and its emergence as a trusted global partner and innovation hub.
Speaking at the forum, Vaishnaw emphasized the presentation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic vision. “India’s economy remains resilient, consistently achieving growth in the 6-8% range,” he said.
Vaishnaw highlighted India’s unique strengths—trust, talent, and design capabilities—while engaging with CEOs, CTOs, investors, and global media. He noted the significant contribution of nearly 2,000 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), which are advancing India’s leadership in complex chip designs and operational innovations.
India’s Semiconductor and Export Revolution
Vaishnaw shared India’s strides in semiconductor manufacturing, projecting the country as one of the top three global destinations for chip production. He also spoke of the transformation in industries such as mobile manufacturing, which has become India’s second-largest export after climbing from 14th place in just four years. Other thriving sectors include pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and garments, all benefiting from a “Make in India, Make for the World” approach supported by tariff simplification and digitalization.
AI and Skilling Initiatives
India’s ambitions in artificial intelligence (AI) were also spotlighted. Vaishnaw announced plans to train 1 million individuals in AI, establish 5G labs in 100 universities, and deploy advanced electronic design automation (EDA) tools across 240 institutions to prepare students for the burgeoning semiconductor industry.
A Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047
Vaishnaw underscored India’s integrated approach to manufacturing and services, backed by pragmatic policymaking, which is driving innovation, global competitiveness, and economic growth. “Under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, India is ready to lead on the global stage, earning recognition and trust from the world’s decision-makers,” he stated.
