India Suffers Defeat in ICC World Test Championship Final Against Australia

New Delhi, 11th June 2023: The Indian cricket team has faced a disappointing loss in the ICC World Test Championship final for the second consecutive time. Australia emerged victorious at The Oval in England, defeating Team India by a significant margin.

 

Australia set a formidable target after scoring 469 runs in their first innings, while India could only manage 296 runs in response. With a substantial lead of 173 runs, Australia declared their second innings at 270 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The Indian team faltered in their second innings, collapsing for 234 runs, resulting in Australia winning the match by a massive margin of 209 runs and claiming the championship trophy.

 

The Indian team’s batting performance was lackluster throughout the match, with no player able to produce a substantial innings. While Australia witnessed two century innings, not a single Indian batsman achieved this feat. Ajinkya Rahane emerged as the top scorer for India, contributing 89 runs in the first innings and 46 runs in the second innings. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could only manage scores of 13 and 14 runs in the first innings, followed by 43 and 49 runs in the second innings, respectively. Disappointingly, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill failed to make an impact.

 

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Indian team made early breakthroughs in the first innings but struggled to break through the middle order. Travis Head’s remarkable knock of 163 and Steve Smith’s century contributed to Australia’s total of 469 runs. Alex Carey also played a crucial innings of 48 runs. In the second innings, Carey continued to trouble the Indian bowlers, adding 66 runs to the score. With a substantial lead of 173 runs from the first innings, Australia set a target of 444 runs for India.
