Pune – The Facebook group with the name MICQ GWR 2017, is preparing to create a new Guinness world record for the Longest Crochet Scarf. Indian women from all over the world have joined hands together for this mission. The scarf which is targeted at 5 KM length, will be crocheted in pieces of 2 metres length and joined into one which will be displayed in Chennai on 14th May 2017.

So far 40 women from Pune have joined the mission. Each member will contribute a minimum of 5 scarves. There are some enthusiastic members contributing more than 10 scarves. Interested members are still joining the group.

On Sunday, a Pune team meet was arranged at Shyama Mukherjee Garden at Karve Nagar so that team members can get to know each other in person and clear their doubts on the scarf making, if any. There is a yarn sponsor Ganga Acro Wools, who is supplying some quantity of yarn free of cost and rest of the yarn at a discounted rate.

The meeting was graced by MLA Medha Kulkarni and corporators Madhuri Sahasrabuddhe and Manjushree Khardekar.

The noble mission of the group, Mother India’s Crochet Queens, is to distribute all the scarves after the display and announcement of the Guinness Record to the needy people through NGOs and social organisations. This will be done on the same day of the event by separating the scarves and distributing to organisations whose credentials are pre-verified by a team.

The Mother India’s Crochet Queens (MICQ) was formed in 2015 by Chennai based Mrs Subashri Natarajan for the purpose of uniting Indian women around the world to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Crochet Blanket. The group has over 2500 members comprising of women from various strata of life ranging from housewives to students to senior citizens to entrepreneurs to working professionals with a common passion for CROCHET. Mrs Subashri Natarajan herself is the CEO of an Engineering company.

Last year in January 2016, the group achieved a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Crochet Blanket at 11.148sq.mts by breaking the earlier record of 3347 sq.mts.
