Pune, 17th February 2024: The Indian women’s badminton team has scripted history by securing a spot in the final of the Badminton Asia Team Championship for the first time ever. The team will contend for the championship title against Thailand in an eagerly awaited match scheduled for Sunday.

In a thrilling semi-final encounter held in Malaysia on Saturday, India triumphed over two-time champions Japan with a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Thailand, on the other hand, secured their place in the final by defeating Indonesia 3-1 in the second semi-final.

Here’s a breakdown of the semi-final match:
PV Sindhu faced a setback in the first match, succumbing to a defeat of 17-21, 22-2 against Aya Ahori.
The dynamic duo of Trisha Jolie and Gayatri Gopichand, ranked 23 in the world, showcased their prowess in a gripping doubles match, defeating Nami Matsuyama and Shida with scores of 21-17, 16-21, 22-20, thus leveling the score to 1-1.
Asmita Chaliha delivered a stellar performance, defeating Naomi Okuhara with scores of 21-17, 21-14, propelling India to a 2-1 lead.
However, the pairing of Ashwini and PV Sindhu faced defeat against Rena and Ayako with scores of 14-21, 11-21, resulting in a tie of 2-2.
The decisive moment came when 17-year-old Anmol Kharb clinched victory for India by defeating Natsuki Ndaira with scores of 21-14, 21-18, sealing India’s remarkable 3-2 win and securing a coveted spot in the final.
