Dubai, 3rd March 2025: A historic milestone was set in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and New Zealand on Sunday, as two bowlers achieved identical five-wicket hauls for the first time in 4,852 One Day Internationals. India’s Varun Chakravarthy and New Zealand’s Matt Henry both returned figures of 5/42, creating a unique record in the history of ODI cricket.

The match, which India won by 44 runs to secure a semi-final berth against Australia, saw Chakravarthy weave his magic with the ball, becoming just the third Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy after Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami. Chakravarthy’s victims included Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.

Earlier in the game, Matt Henry had etched his name in the record books by becoming the first-ever bowler to take a five-wicket haul against India in Champions Trophy history. Henry’s scalps included Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami.

This remarkable feat not only showcased the dominance of bowlers in the match but also highlighted the competitive nature of the tournament. India’s victory, their third consecutive win in the Champions Trophy 2025, propelled them to the top of Group A and set up a highly anticipated semi-final clash with Australia.
