INS Shivaji: 59 Officers Complete Marine Engineering Specialisation Course

Lonavla, December 24, 2020: 59 officer trainees, including 44 from Indian Navy, 15 from Friendly Foreign Countries (from Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) of the 90th Batch of Marine Engineering Specialisation Course (MESC) graduated from INS Shivaji on 24 Dec 2020 after completing 105 weeks of professional training. 

The trainees were actively involved in understanding the finer aspects of marine engineering along with participation in co-curricular activities towards their overall grooming. Vice Admiral SR Sarma, Chief of Materiel, addressed the officers at the valedictory function through video conferencing. The Flag Officer congratulated the officers and the training staff at Shivaji and urged the officers to continue their tryst with learning and continually adapt to technological advancements. 

The Passing out Parade was reviewed by Cmde Ravnish Seth, Commanding Officer, INS Shivaji and Station Commander Lonavla. The Commanding Officer exhorted the young Engineer Officers to lead by example and pursue excellence in every endeavour while maintaining the highest standards of quality in their spheres of work. As part of the course curriculum, the officers underwent watchkeeping onboard #NavalWarships and undertook various #MarineEngineering projects in cutting edge technologies. 

The Commanding Officer awarded trophies to officers. The ‘Hammer’ for the Best All Round Officer was awarded to Lt Karan Dilip Chellani, and Vice Admiral Daya Shankar rolling trophy for ‘Best Sportsman’ was awarded to Lt Naveen George. Lt Cdr Pijush Kanti Saha (Bangladesh Navy) was adjudged the Best Overall Foreign Trainee Overall. Lt Karan Dilip Chellani stood ‘First in Order of Academic Merit’. The best project syndicate was awarded for the project on ‘Integration of Artificial Intelligence with onboard Machinery Controls Systems’. The officers would now proceed for appointments onboard Naval Warships, Shore units.
