ISKCON Pune Celebrates Krishna Janmashtami with Devotional Fervor
Kondhwa, 16th August 2025: Amid resonant chants of “Gopal Krishna ki Jai” and “Hare Rama Hare Krishna,” the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) celebrated Krishna Janmashtami with grandeur at its Katraj-Kondhwa Road and Camp temples on Friday. The festival drew an overwhelming response, with nearly three lakh devotees visiting the temples to seek the blessings of Radha-Krishna. Thousands also participated in the ceremonial abhishek of Lord Krishna.
The highlight of the celebration was the abhishek ceremony, where devotees offered prayers and rituals in a specially decorated pavilion modeled after Vrindavan’s Nandgaon temples. The deities of Radha-Krishna were adorned in gem-studded attire, while a flower-decked cradle carrying baby Krishna became the center of attraction.
Senior temple leaders, including President Radheshyam Prabhu, Revati Pati Prabhu, and Jaydev Prabhu, were present, along with dignitaries from politics, civic administration, and the police force. “At midnight, following a two-hour abhishek, the Lord was offered 250 types of food items before the aarti,” said ISKCON spokesperson Janardan Chitode. Vice-President Sanjay Bhosle highlighted the spiritual and cultural significance of the festival and ISKCON’s worldwide activities.

The celebrations also featured the cultural festival “Krishna Samarpan,” showcasing 800 artists from across India performing classical dance, devotional music, theatre, and instrumental renditions dedicated to Lord Krishna. The sanctums of Radha-Vrindavan Chandra, Jagannath-Baldev-Subhadra, and Gaur-Nitai were beautifully decorated with ornate costumes and jewelry, while the temple premises, including the Balaji shrine, glowed with elaborate lighting.
This year’s Radha-Krishna attire featured intricate motifs of the Gomti River and Govardhan Hill, crafted after months of work by skilled artisans.
“The outfits were entirely hand-embroidered, with pearls sourced from Japan, stones from Australia, and diamonds from the United States,” said Chief Priest Roop Goswami Prabhu and festival head Kaustubh Prabhu.
Over 150 liters of juice and 50 kilograms of flowers were used during the special abhishek, in which more than 200 devotees participated in service. The temple décor also showcased the Govardhan Leela, adding a rich spiritual dimension to the celebrations.
