Pune, 31st March 2024: Pune residents paid tribute to Bhausaheb Sonwane, a distinguished scholar and leader of the Dalit movement and the Matang community.

 

Dr. Baba Adhav, a senior labor leader and intellectual, stressed the importance of preserving the ideals of equality advocated by stalwarts such as Phule, Shahu, Ambedkar, Lahuji Vastad Salve, and Anna Bhau Sathe for the betterment of society. He emphasized that it is imperative for everyone in society to uphold these ideals in the present era.

 

Dr. Adhav made these remarks while addressing the celebration of Bhausaheb Sonwane’s 90th birthday, organized by him. He praised Sonwane’s significant contributions to the Matang community, highlighting his dedication and sacrifices for societal welfare.

 

Dr. Adhav also encouraged the audience, stating that despite facing various challenges, they possess the strength to champion ideological battles. Bhagwan Vairat, leader of the slum security force, urged the government to confer the Padma Bhushan award upon Bhausaheb Sonwane in recognition of his service to society. The event was presided over by senior Dalit movement leader Uncle Sonwane.

 

Former Minister Ramesh Bagwe, former Leader of the House Subhash Jagtap, Bhagwan Vairat, Dayanand Adgale from Gaurav Samiti, Anil Hatagale, And. Mahesh Sakat, Corporator Avinash Bagwe, Sachin Bagadeya, and leaders from various social and political organizations in Pune attended the program in large numbers.
