Jugaad : Punekars beat heat with green shades at traffic signals

Pune, May 19,2019 : A corporator has come to rescue of Punekars in the old City area to provide relief from the scorching heat by putting up green shade nets at seven junctions. In the next two days, similar shades will be put up at 20 more places.
Corporator Hemant Rasane got the shades put up with financial aid from Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust. At present these shades have been hung in Appa Balwant Chowk, Belbag chowk on Laxmi Road and Hutatma chowk among others.
Rasane said that he had seen similar shades in Nagpur and found them effective, hence he replicated the initiative in Pune. People are extremely inconvenienced by the scorching sun and unbearable heat. The shades will bring about few minutes of relief to them. Many people also tend to jump the signals to save on some time waiting at the signal and this step might as well help to bring down the violations.
