Kalavardhini to present Parikrama – 2017

Pune 23rd October 2017 : Kalavardhini Charitable Trust established with the primary objective of supporting and promoting allied arts, proudly presents a two-day dance festival entitled as Parikrama – 2017. The dance festival gathers the veteran dancers of today and tomorrow under one roof. Along with Bharatnatyam it brings together the best in all other classical dance styles. This 9th edition of festival is being organized in Pune between Saturday, 28th October and Sunday 29th October. An announcement to this effect was made by renowned Bharatnatyam artist Arundhati Patwardhan – secretary, Kalavardhini Charitable Trust.

Speaking on this occasion Patwardhan said, “We are very happy to announce the 9thsuccessful year of ‘Parikrama’ which has not only gained immense audience appreciation and but also helped in increasing their awareness about this art form.The aim of the festival is to concentrate ontechnical excellence in dance training while cultivating the overall usefulness of dance in everyday life.”

The first day of Parikrama will be held on Saturday, 28thOctober, at 5:30 pm at Tilak Smarak Mandir, Tilak Road. The very first performance of this year will be Kathak by ShinjiniKulkarni, grand-daughter of Kathak Guru, Birjumaharaj Ji followed by new Choreography by Kalavardhini Sankul. The day will be concluded by a mesmerizing Bharatnatyam dance performance by Meenakshi Srinivasan, disciple of Smt. Alarmel Valli who is famous for her eloquent abhinaya and purity in technique.

The Second day of ‘Parikrama’ will start with Symposium also known as ‘Samvaad’. This Symposium will be held on Sunday, 29th October, 10:00am at Karnatak High School’s Shakuntala Shetti Auditorium. Renowned writer and journalist with a lifetime’s contribution to Indian performing arts, literature acclaimed dramatist Gowri Ramnarayan and Ashish Khokar will accompany her to speak to about subjects related to Dance.

The Dance festival will conclude with a program on same day at 5:30 pm with an amazing kathak performance by ManeeshaSathe, a living Kathak legend. This will be followed by a classic Bharatnatyamperformance by Sangeet NatakAkademi Awardee Dr. SuchetaBhide Chapekar.

In the year’s to come Parikrama will be a precious dance fare which will be enjoyable and entertaining.
