Kangana Ranaut Invites Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Watch Her Upcoming Film ‘Emergency’, Based on Indira Gandhi
New Delhi, 9th January 2025: Kangana Ranaut, preparing for the release of her highly anticipated directorial debut Emergency, has invited Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Member of Parliament from Wayanad and sister of the Leader of Opposition, to watch the film. In Emergency, Kangana not only directs but also stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the grandmother of Wayanad’s MP.
Kangana, also a Member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, shared details about her encounter with Priyanka during a conversation with IANS. “I met Priyanka Gandhi in Parliament, and the first thing I told her was, ‘You should watch Emergency.’ She was very gracious and responded, ‘Maybe.’ Let’s see if they decide to watch it. I believe it’s a thoughtful and respectful depiction of a significant historical moment and the person at its centre,” she explained.
She emphasized the care taken in portraying Indira Gandhi with dignity. “When I researched her life, much of the focus was on her personal relationships or controversial interactions, but I felt there’s so much more to a person. Especially for women, they are often reduced to their connections with the men in their lives. Much of the controversial material about her was centred around that. I’ve made sure to portray her with respect and sensibility. I think everyone should watch this film.”
Praising Indira Gandhi’s enduring popularity, Kangana added, “Apart from some of the difficult events during the Emergency and other challenges, she was widely loved and respected. Being a three-time Prime Minister is no small achievement—she was truly adored.”
Emergency, which has faced several delays, is now set to be released on January 17, 2025. The film stars Kangana alongside Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram, and Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan.
