Kollam, October 2, 2020: In a tragic incident, an orthopaedic doctor died of suicide after facing allegations of negligence and facing harassment following the death of a patient he operated. He is survived by his wife Dr Archana and son Adithya Krishnan.
Dr Anoop Krishnan (35) was a renowned orthopaedic surgeon. He had his own hospital ‘Anoop Ortho Care Hospital’ in Kollam. He was found dead inside his house on Thursday. He had cut his vein and written the word ‘sorry’ with his blood inside the bathroom before committing suicide by hanging.
A 7-year-old girl with a heart condition was admitted to his hospital to fix a bent on her leg. Because of the girl’s heart condition, many doctors had refused to perform surgery on her. The girl, however, underwent the surgery at his hospital on September 23 and died during the procedure because of a heart attack.
The family members and relatives of the patient alleged that the doctor did not give the anaesthesia properly due to which the patient died. They also filed a complaint against Dr Anoop. This was followed by protests outside his hospital and a smear campaign against Dr Anoop and his family.
According to people who knew him well, he was deeply disturbed and affected by all this because he had worked hard to make a good reputation as one of the best orthopaedic surgeons in the city.
The police are now investigating the case further to ascertain if there is a direct link between Dr Anoop’s suicide and the patient’s death.
