Khadakwasla Kidnapping Case: Gang Arrested By Pune Police For Demanding Rs 25 Lakh Ransom

Khadakwasla, 7th August 2023: A 27-year-old individual was abducted from Kondhve-Dhavade, triggering a series of events that culminated in the apprehension of a gang from Sangli. The gang had orchestrated the abduction and demanded a ransom of 25 lakh rupees, communicating through a phone number from Nepal.
Following swift action by Uttamnagar Police station officials, the suspects behind the abduction and extortion attempt were identified and arrested. The detainees include Akshay Mohan Kadam (resident of Gori Khurd, Khanapur in Sangli district), Vijay Madhukar Nalavde, Pradip Kisan Chavan, Mahesh Nalavde, Amol More, and Ranjit Bhosle (all from Tasgaon in Sangli district). The accused were produced before the court and have been remanded in police custody until August 10. Police Inspector Kiran Balwadkar provided this information.
The victim, Vaibhav Shrikrishna Javadh (27 years old), was abducted from his residence in Kondhve-Dhavade on a Saturday evening. Subsequently, a WhatsApp call originating from a Nepalese number was made to his wife’s mobile device.
The caller threatened, “If you want Vaibhav to be released then pay 25 lakh rupees, or the situation will worsen.” Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Anti-Extortion Squad’s Sangram Kendre initiated a technical investigation, revealing the whereabouts of the suspects in Sangli.
Additional Commissioner of Police Pravin Patil conveyed this information to Deputy Commissioner of Police Suhail Sharma and ACP Bhimrao Tele. Acting upon this intelligence, a team was dispatched to Sangli to take further action. Simultaneously, information was obtained indicating that the hijacked vehicle was en route to Pune.
Consequently, a team was stationed at Khedshivapur Toll Naka, where the suspects were apprehended and subjected to interrogation. Further investigations led to the discovery that Vaibhav was being held in Tasgaon. Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Rokde’s team successfully detained the suspects in Sangli, subsequently rescuing Vaibhav from captivity. He was safely reunited with his wife, Poonam Jadhav.
“During questioning, accused Akshay Kadam revealed that Vaibhav was previously employed by him and had allegedly embezzled 25 lakh rupees. Kadam claimed that Vaibhav had failed to repay the amount despite a year having passed. The police are now investigating the veracity of these claims and whether any formal complaint of embezzlement had been filed. Abduction was not a legally justifiable means for Kadam to recover the alleged debt”, said Inspector Kiran Balwadkar of Uttamnagar Police Station.
The intricate operation involved coordination among various officers, including Police Inspectors Kiran Balwadkar, Ajay Waghmare, Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Rokde, Kiran Deshmukh, and officers from Sangram Kendre, Sameer Pawar, Dnyaneshwar Todkar, Anirudh Gaikwad, Sagar Huwale, and the Anti-Extortion Squad. Police officer Sheetal Anuse is leading the ongoing investigation.
