Khadi India Lounge selling designer clothes launched in Mumbai

Mumbai, 9th January 2017: Minister of State for MSME, Haribhai Choudhary inaugurated the first and exclusive Khadi India Lounge in Mumbai today. He expressed hope that such initiatives will create multiple employment opportunities and will empower the artisans, especially women in rural India by selling their premium products.  The Minister said the Government is committed to put Khadi on a global map and accordingly drawn up a road map for promotion of Khadi. He said a Rs 2,200 crore MoU has been signed with the World Bank for skill upgradation of weavers and artisans.

The Khadi India lounge showcases designer line of garments and exclusive fabric for men and women. These include high fashion garments including ready to wear clothers designed by Ritu Beri, the acclaimed fashion designer. It is an attempt to position Khadi as a premium faahion product range.

Similar Khadi India lounges are being set up across key metropolitan cities of India, with the stores at Delhi and Jaipur ready for inauguration later this month. Khadi & Village Industries Commission, KVIC has also drawn up plans to boost online sales by collaborating with different e-commerce platforms.

Currently, there are 26 exclusive Khadi stores, and over 7 thousand Khadi sales outlets. KVIC is also in discussions for launching outlets in major airports.
