Know What to Do During a Blackout or Air Raid Siren

New Delhi, 6th May 2025: A Blackout Action Plan is a crucial part of civil defence preparedness. Staying calm and alert during emergencies or hostile situations is essential for national security. Regular drills and public awareness of these protocols can empower citizens to respond effectively during critical moments.
📢 When You Hear an Air Raid Siren:
- Take Immediate Shelter: Move to the nearest covered or protected area (preferably a basement or an interior room without windows).
- Stay Away from Windows & Doors:Flying glass and debris can cause injuries during explosions or shockwaves.
- Switch Off Lights & Electrical Devices:To support blackout procedures and avoid drawing attention from enemy aircraft.
- Keep Emergency Kit Ready: Include a flashlight, batteries, water, dry food, a first aid kit, essential medicines, and identification.
- Listen to Official Updates: Tune in to verified government channels for instructions.
- Don’t Use Mobile Flash or Torch Openly Outdoors: Any light can give away locations during a blackout.
🔦 During a Blackout (Even if No Siren):
- Use Covered Torches or Dimmed Lights Inside: Cover with red paper or cloth to reduce visibility from outside.
- Avoid Unnecessary Movement Outside: Stay indoors and maintain silence. Help children and elders remain calm.
- Assist Neighbours If Needed: Especially elderly people, persons with disabilities, or those living alone.
- Keep Phone Charged & On Silent: Preserve battery life; use only when necessary.
- Wait for the “All Clear” Signal: Do not resume normal activity until officially announced.
