‘Let’s Do Something for the Eradication of Caste’ – Vicharvedha Sammelana

Pune, 5th February 2025: On behalf of the Vicharvedh Association, a sammelana (meet) titled ‘Let’s Do Something for the Eradication of Caste’ has been organized on February 8 and 9 at Rashtraseva Dal (Parvati Payatha), Pune. The meet will be inaugurated at 10:30 AM by senior sociologist Uma Chakravarti, in the presence of Anand Karandikar as the chief guest.

The event will feature discussion sessions on various topics such as caste-based census, reservation, media representation, and the economics of caste. Eminent speakers like Neeraj Hatekar, Surendra Jondhale, Umesh Bagade, and Raghunath (Dada) Patil will share their insights. The conference is free of charge, and young participants are encouraged to attend in large numbers. This marks the 6th year of the conference.

The details of the event were shared at a press conference held today at the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh. Present on the occasion were Anand Karandikar, Sarita Awad, Sandeep Barve, Aniket Salve, and other dignitaries.

On February 8, after the inauguration, at 11:45 AM, Sachin Garud and Umesh Bagade will discuss ‘The Economics of Caste.’ At 2:00 PM, a panel discussion on ‘Media for Caste Eradication: Past, Present, and Future’ will take place, featuring Roshan More, Sharmishtha Bhosale, Abhijit Kamble, and Ravindra Ambekar. At 4:00 PM, interfaith couples will be felicitated by Laxmi Yadav and Deepak Abnave, including couples Vishal-Arzu, Atish-Amruta, and Bhim-Leena. This will be followed by a book launch and a play titled ‘Chauraha.’

On February 9, at 10:00 AM, Sachin Mali and Dilip Chavan will speak on ‘Caste Census.’ Neeraj Hatekar will discuss ‘The Concept and Purpose of Reservation,’ while Rahul Sonpingale will talk about ‘The Future of Reservation.’ Vaibhav Geete will engage in a dialogue on ‘Caste Hierarchy and Caste-Based Atrocities.’ Anand Karandikar will discuss ‘Violence Against Women for Caste Preservation – A Cultural Perspective.’ Anjum Qadri will present thoughts on ‘Caste Atrocities Due to Patriarchy.’ The event will conclude with ‘Navayan Mahajalsa,’ a cultural performance by Sheetal Sathe and Sachin Mali.
