Local Self-Government Bodies Planned For Chakan, Pune Industrial Areas : CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai/Pune, 15th August 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that Maharashtra government plans to establish local self-government bodies in Chakan and other industrial areas of Pune district to address growing concerns over poor infrastructure, traffic congestion and administrative issues faced by industries.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Fadnavis said “In the next phase, under the Industrial Township Act, the government plans to set up local self-government institutions in these areas and build the necessary services through them.”
He said the lack of coordination among multiple agencies responsible for infrastructure was one of the key issues in Chakan. A committee headed by the Pune district collector has already been constituted to prepare a detailed plan and address the infrastructure deficit in the region.
The committee has been tasked with addressing road repairs, traffic congestion, traffic management, integrated road and transport planning, and pending administrative grievances of industries. It will also assess the problems faced by industrialists and work towards their time-bound resolution.
The committee will not be limited to Chakan and will examine similar infrastructure and administrative issues in other industrial areas across Pune district, Fadnavis said.
The move comes amid growing concerns among industries in the Chakan belt over inadequate infrastructure, with some businesses warning that they could consider relocating if the issues remain unresolved.
At present, roads and transport infrastructure in the Chakan region fall under multiple agencies, including the Public Works Department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), local bodies, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
Fadnavis said the newly constituted committee had been directed to use the resources already available with various agencies, bridge coordination gaps and meet the infrastructure expectations of industries.
