Local train services resume after 86 days later in Mumbai for essential services

Mumbai, June 15, 2020: Local train service called Mumbai’s lifeline, which has remained closed for 86 days due to Corona, resumed today. However, currently, only people connected with essential services are being allowed to travel. The first local ran at 5.30 am.

Today, 200 local trains of the Central Railway and 120 local trains of Western Railway are running. There was a meeting of railway officials on Saturday to resume local train services in Mumbai. After this, it was decided to start the service of local trains.

Currently, only policemen, nurses, doctors, municipal employees, sanitation workers, municipal employees and journalists will be allowed to travel on the local train.

Western Railway

A total of 73 trains are running from Churchgate to Dahanu route of Western Railway. 8 trains are running between Virar and Dahanu Road stations. These local trains will run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm. Some local trains will run till Dahanu. Some fast locals will run between Churchgate and Borivali. After Borivali, it will run slow from the next station.

Central railway

A total of 200 local trains of Central Railway have resumed services. Among these trains, 100 will take the up route and the remaining 100 will take the down route. The CSMT will run 130 local trains between Kasara, Karjat, Kalyan and Thane stations. Of these, 65 will go up and the remaining 65 will go down the line. These local trains will stop at some major stations.

Changes in the rules of travel in local trains

Ordinary travellers will not be able to travel by local train. Ticket windows will only be open for passengers connected with essential services. Passengers will get the ticket only if they show the government identity card. It has been decided to extend the validity of pass holder tickets. Employees will be allowed to go to stations through their ID cards.

QR code-based e-passes will be issued to employees. It will also be checked that the employees coming for duty are not from containment zones.

For social distancing, only 700 people will be allowed in 1200 capacity coaches. There will be no hawkers and no parking area up to 150 meters in the railway station area. An ambulance will be stationed outside each station to deal with any medical emergency service.
