Lockdown continues in Pune, only essential commodities shops open: Pune police

Pune, April 25, 2020: The Union Home Ministry, Delhi has issued guidelines on keeping shops open during lockdown period as per the circular dated April 24, 2020 against the backdrop of coronavirus outbreak. The Union Home Ministry has since clarified in a newly released press note that the concessions announced by the state government will not apply to the containment zone like Pune where there are many cases of COVID19 patients.

“Due to the rapid increase in the number of corona patients in the city of Pune, the state government has included the city of Pune in the red zone. It should be noted that the circular issued by the Union Home Ministry regarding the operation of shops is not applicable in the jurisdiction of the Pune City Police Commissionerate and all the previous prohibition orders will remain in force in the future”, said Joint Commissioner Ravindra Shisve of Pune city police.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an order last night on amendments in the consolidated revised guidelineson lock down measures to allow opening of shops.This order implies that In rural areas,all shops, except those in shopping malls are allowed to open. In urban areas, all standalone shops, neighbourhood shops & shops in residential complexes are allowed to open. Shopsin markets/ market complexes and shopping mallsarenot allowed to open.

It is clarified that sale by E-commerce companies will continue to be permitted for essential goods only. It is further clarified that sale of liquor and other items continues to be prohibited as specified in the National Directives for COVID-19 management. Also, salons, beauty parlours, spa etc are not allowed to open.

As specified in the consolidated revised guidelines, these shops will not be permitted to open in areas, whether rural or urban, which are declared as containment zones by respective States/ UTs.
